Nathan Reese Maher
BIO
I was born in Des Moines and raised in West Burlington, IA.  Ever since I picked up a pen, I would write stories. Growing up, I attended several writing conferences and workshops with intent of honing my skill.  I graduated from the University of Iowa with a BA in English Literature with emphasis in classics and creative writing.  January 2011, I self-published my first novel and have been publishing ever since.  I’ve written and published four tabletop role-playing games, using crowd funded sites such as Kickstarter in order to purchase artwork, layout and editing services; having raised over $13,500 from generous backers.  Just recently, I have started offering editing and writing services.  In my spare time, I like to read, play video games and tabletop RPGs; dance ballet; play board games; feed my Netflix addict; watch movies; attending fantasy, sci-fi, anime, literary and comic book conventions; and spend time with friends.

“Lights Out – The Roleplaying Game”

No school. No parents. No rules.  All the parents are gone, the electricity is out and you have amazing superpowers.  Build a character, grab some friends and build a clubhouse to help defend against hungry monsters, mischievous faeries, and frightening spooks!  Brave your own adventures with a tabletop role-playing game inspired by the “Lights Out” post-apocalyptic chapter book series.  Do you have what it takes to survive the night?

“Lights Out - Book 1”
No school.  No parents. No rules.  All the adults from Applewood have disappeared, kids have strange abilities and worse – the electricity is out.  It’s lights out, and Shelly Wynn – along with her friends – must survive the creatures that go bump in the night.  As her world falls apart, Shelly finds that the person who bullied her through grade school is the one who needs her the most.
“Lights Out” is a post-apocalyptic children’s chapter series with superpowers.

“Lights Out – Book 2”
No school.  No parents. No rules.  Shelly discovers there is a downside to patches and worse, it’s harming Lydia.  After learning there are other monsters that come out at night, Shelly must find Lydia before something else does.
“Lights Out” is a post-apocalyptic children’s chapter series with superpowers.

“Spooks! Welcome to the Great Beyond”
Congratulations! You’re dead and the afterlife isn’t what you thought.  Play as the recently departed in a troubled Hereafter. Be forewarned, there is a war being fought in the shadows between the Temple of Osiris and the Temple of Set.  They are playing for keeps and no soul is safe.  Do you think you have what it takes to tackle the Great Beyond?
“Spooks! Welcome to the Great Beyond” is a tabletop role-playing game set in the afterlife.

“Mortal Intrusion”
For thousands of years, the dead have invaded the living.  Now, it’s our turn! The “Mortal Intrusion” is the first expansion to “Spooks! Welcome to the Great Beyond”.  Play as divergents, mortals with extraordinary powers who – through force or will – must face against secret organizations, monsters, faeries, the otherworldly and the undead.  Every spook has a story, and the “Mortal Intrusion”, now it’s time to play a living character until death inevitably claims them.
“Mortal Intrusion” is a tabletop role-playing game that expands “Spooks! Welcome to the Great Beyond” with new content.

“Secrets of the CitySpire, Book 1 – A Familiar Love Song”
“All is as if the world did cease to exist.  The city’s monuments go unseen, its past unheard, and its culture slowly fading into the dismal sea.”
Samuel Bell wakes to an empty city with no memory.  He walks the barren streets as he’s haunted by phantoms of an unknown past.  As he meets others who shares his plight, they must work together to discover what brought them to this vacant city-isle. However, there is something in the shadows, a creature who stalks them from the dark.  Can Samuel and his friends survive its machinations?  And will they able to persevere when they uncover the secret of the CitySpire.
“Secrets of the CitySpire” is a Gothic sci-fi novel dubbed, a modernization of Shakespeare’s The Tempest and heavily inspired by the movie “Blade Runner”.

“Rubberband Lazer – Or, The Adventures of Casey Norider and Jaq Synergy”
Sheriff Casey Norider and his trusty munchkin navigator have been protecting the galaxy with one pun at a time.  When a special mission from the Emperor turns into a strong willed cadet, their number (and adventures) turn a little odd.  Witches, faeries, and a whole lot of sheep, “Rubberband Lazer” is a Space Western Comedy of epic proportions.
“Rubberband Lazer” is inspired by the song performed by Klaus Nomi and written by Joey Arias and Anthony Frere of the same name.  Published with permission of the Klaus Nomi estate.

Book Review Day: Fatal Obession

Hi Everyone, sorry for the short delay in posts. My computer decided to take a break, and I finally got it back. Just in time too!
While I loved the romance, and vivid picture this book painted for me, it felt totally predictable! There is no mystery as to what you are getting into, the title gives it all away. Totally worth the read if you are really into classic murder mysteries. And as I said the romance is HOT! I just wanted a few new twists. Something unexpected!
I did like how I could instantly picture the characters and the small town setting. This was a nice, quick read as well. Completely worth a few hours in a chair, with some coffee, to read cover to cover!

Book Review Day: Apocalypsis

I think I really enjoyed this twist in post apocalyptic tale! No ZOMBIES!! Something kill everyone over 20 one day, leaving kids to fend for themselves. Knowing it was coming, our main gal has been training with her dad for years. So when it happened, when he died, she could survive and defend herself. Meeting strangers and learning who her enemies are causes he to see more than her fair share of gore. Totally gave me chills while keeping me totally hooked until the very last page! Book Review Day: Ticker

What an upbeat, steampunk-esk, mystery. The flow truly kept me feeling rather light, and took away from my connection with story. I couldn't tell if I was back in time, or out in the future. I feel like I was let down with this one. I picked up on a hint of a classic London murder mystery. Totally over done! Sorry everyone, I just couldn't get into this book!!!
Though I beg all of you to make your own reading choices! I felt sucked in by the cover, and completely let myself down! Read more about this books through the link below!

Book Review Day: Sea of Stars

I think I pulled a classic me, jumping into a book in the middle of the series! That being said, I felt lost until about half way through. I finally started to feel like I could connect with the characters in the book. I found a few references that felt out of place to the world created in Sea of Stars. However the book was still beautifully constructed. Even with a slow start, it wasn't the worst book I've read.  Space crafts and Sci-Fi, just aren't my thing, I guess. Check it out if you are a fan of Sci-Fi and fantasy. Follow the link below to learn more! Have a great week my bookish people!!!

Book Review Day: Courage That Counts

Check it out, another book review! This thrilling erotic romance is a true indie gem. I found I enjoyed this book. I normally don't got for something with erotica in it, however there was more of a storyline than other books I've read, so i felt like I was reading a book over a dirty magazine. The passion and love between the characters is awesome! I feel like I am right in the mix of things, as our main character looses his best friend. And who doesn't love a fire fighter???
I totally loved this book and will be talking to all my friends about it! You should totally check it out as well and find out what it is you're missing out on! Click the link to find out more about this awesome book!

First of all, just let me say that I am sorry for my absence. I have been very ill, and now that I am back in tip top shape, I am back at the reviews. This post will not disappoint.
Let me say, I was truly knocked out of my socks people! If you know anything about my reading likes, I have loathed vampires since Twilight. However, my faith has been restored!!! Maegan paints such a beautiful image in your brain as you read until you can't fight sleep. Really! I fell asleep reading this book every day for 4 days!!!!!! It's so easy to get pulled into Harper's world and feel like you are right in the paranormal action. Then wouldn't you know it, love was thrown into the mix, and ripped away just as quickly. I cried, I just cried!!! Maegan really knock this out of the park and I will tell EVERYONE to get this hidden gem of the indie world!!!! Book Review Day:

There’s nothing like finding out you have breast cancer to make you take a second look at your life. Along with the diagnosis, Ariana finds a new reason to live when she meets tattoo artist Blaine Bennett. But Blaine’s reaction when she informs him of the pending double mastectomy isn’t what she expected. Can two people who so obviously belong together deal with the outside forces keeping them apart?

There is so much heart wrenching pain and passion that it truly is an awesome read. Dealing with caner, a cheating husband, and new feelings for a stranger can be a lot for anyone. Ariana does it in a beautiful way. She know this disease is coming for her, it took her mom and sister. Finally getting the diagnosis of breast cancer set new life to the things she needed to do. Bettering herself while healing for surgery seems flawless for Ariana and I just enjoyed reading this book. PLEASE read if you get the chance! Well worth it!

Book Review Day: Zero

For as long as he can remember, Alan Price has been fighting a losing battle against bullying and depression. When one final attempt at a normal life goes horribly wrong, Alan prepares himself for the ultimate surrender. But he'll soon discover that only by looking death in the face, will he ever begin to live.

Wow! While the constant 3rd person really made this hard to read, what I could pull out as a storyline was a-freakin-mazing. As a sufferer of depression, I know what its like to be desperate for happiness. And when you can get around the constant repeating of names and words, you find the same struggle in Alan. This was a super quick read. I finished in one day. Check it out, it might be the book for you.

Book Review Day: Beautiful Stranger

Patrick Connolly is about to get the one thing he has always wanted…kinda.

Wall have that one thing—that one thing we wish for on every first star of the night. Wealth. Fame. Love. For geeky artist Patrick Connolly, it is the attention of his beautiful and seemingly unattainable classmate Nualla Galathea. There’s just one problem—he’s got less than a snowball’s chance in hell, and that’s being generous.

However, when a heated argument erupts in the halls of Bayside Academy forcing Patrick and Nualla’s paths to collide, Nualla surprisingly jumps at the opportunity to be his date. Patrick may think his wish has just come true, but this gentle boy will need more than artistic talent to combat the deadly secrets lurking behind his dream girl’s veil of normality. Like the fact that she isn’t even human

A quick little read, I enjoyed the fast pace set by the author. The action had my attention from the beginning, holding me in with the colorful descriptions of the characters. However, there were a lot of repeated statements and words that felt like they existed only to push the page number higher. Though this wasn't a long book at all, I still found things to enjoy about it. You will have your mouth hanging open by the end, like, WTF? I like that in my books!
This link will take you right to the book:

Book Review Day: Created Darkly

Necromancer Kris Chase's purpose is simple. Blindly raise the dead for the primary elite, self necro-governed group, the Center. The problem is, she couldn't care less about what the Center expects from her. Instead, she is more content with snuffing out the life-force from every vile creature she can get her hands on; the same monsters her brethren indiscriminately create… for the right price.

Until the life of someone dear to her is threatened.

With the stakes raised insurmountably, she finds herself bound by desperation to create the very darkness she always fought against being consumed by, going against everything she has ever believed in.

Holy cow!!! This book is a nonstop thrill ride to the very last page. I normal dislike vampire books, but this is starting to change me! Gena has a way with words, that makes you feel like you are watching the action. And lets not forget all the tension, just, wow. I could feel the sexual build up between main characters mixed into the need to save a life! I truly enjoyed every words and will be passing it around to all my friends. Completely worthy of reading and not stopping until the end!

Book Review Day: In Dreams

Working in the homicide division of the Detroit Police Department, has made Angelo Baldoni, a third generation officer, pretty much immune to the depths of depravity seen in his years on the force. When a young woman is brutally murdered, the case of Hope Cooper can change the course of his life.
Hope, an outgoing young woman with everything going for her, lost it all the night that she was faced with the vicious eyes of a murderer. Stuck in limbo, Hope is confused and scared, trying to right the wrong done to her. Able to visit people in their dreams, Hope latches onto Angelo in hopes he can catch her killer.
Angelo was raised with a strong belief in the afterlife and the dreams of Hope don’t go unnoticed. With the help of his partner, Bobby, he aims to catch the killer before he strikes again. However, a cold case causes Angelo's past to merge with Hope’s case.
Will he keep his feelings at bay to find the murderer? Or will it be too late?

A murder mystery that will drive you to read more is how I felt about this book. Meeting Detective Baldoni set a typical New York cop feel to the story, however this is no typical tale. Angelo, Baldoni’s first name, is one of a huge family and a second generation cop. Deep down, he’s just trying to survive since the loss of his fiancĂ©.  Who was brutally murdered four years before.
Hope was murdered while working, by a man she knew, but had no clue he was so evil. She finds herself in and out of Angelo’s dreams, guiding him through what she can remember, leading up to her death. Angelo also discovers how his family mingled into Hope’s life. Heather left me feeling his fear, Angelo’s need to help his family and do the right thing at the same time. This was just such an amazing read and truly gripping. And I mean heart stopping moments, people. So pick up your copy today and jump right in. As you know I’m not giving anymore away, and trust me, you’ll thank me for that later.
